-Dr. Neil Solomon, M.D., Ph.D.,
Pain! We all know what it feels like, but do we know what it really is? When you cut your finger, nerves around the injury send pain signals to the brain, which in return sends impulses back to the injured area that sensitise it and cause inflammation, When the pain is relatively brief, or acute, these signals and impulses last for a relatively short time period and then stop. However, some researchers believe chronic pain is a different story.

In the book, The Pain Cure, Dr. Dharma Khalsa demonstrates how chronic pain may gain a life of its own by in a sense jamming the nervous system pathways open. For example, in a painful condition that is chronic such as back problems, as the pain signals and impulses are sent to and from the brain, they begin to engrave a pain pathway on the body’s nervous system, Biological “gates” through which pains signals and impulses pass may even become jammed open with constant use. Therefore, even after the original inujury should have been resolved, the pain continues, becoming an illness all its own.

Things such as lack of sleep, stressful lifestyle, repeated injury, physical inactivity, lack of important dietary nutrients, hypoglycemia, and a serotonin or endorphin deficit may cause the body to jam open its biological gateways and experience chronic pain. Some of the most common types of chronic pain include arthritis, back pain, and migraines.

The ancient Indian healers, traditionally used Noni for pain, both acute and chronic. Many times parts of Noni plant and fruit were applid topically to injured areas of the body. Modern science has shown that some of Noni’s pain-relief agents include terpenes, found in essential oils, which are known to aind in cell synthesis and cell rejuvenation. Other essential nutrients in Noni that may work synergistically in pain relief are proteins, amino acids, enzymes, vitamins and minerals.

In addition, we believe that noni is associated with the body’s production of a very important biochemical known as serotonin, which may involve the xeronine system, that is believed to promote the body’s ability to ward off pain. Serotonin plays a large role in the healthy function of the brain and nerves, the largest players in the pain cycle. Research has shown that serotonin, triggered by the brain, tells the nerves that first pick up pain signals to calm down.

In my study, of the 5,139 people who consumed Noni drink to help reduce their pain, 86 percent reported some successful results.

Amount of Noni usage : The average amount consumed by the 86 percent who reported pain relief was 3 ounces per day.
